You will enjoy a journey through typically English Suffolk countryside as you travel in luxury from Cambridge to the Wyken Estate, about 9 miles from Bury St Edmunds. Here, there are seven acres of vineyards, with some 12,000 vines, originally planted in 1988. They are on a south-facing slope and are trained in the Double Guyot style, thriving on the sandy loam over chalk. On average 12,000 bottles of English wine - including wine that has won awards - are produced here each year, which are sold in the shop and restaurant.
You will enjoy a bespoke tour of the Vineyards in this lovely setting, followed by wine-tasting, giving you a rare opportunity to sample some English wines.
After the wine-tasting, you will be offered a glass of Wyken wine to accompany a delicious 3 course meal in the restaurant. This is housed in a converted 14th century barn and has been in the Good Food Guide for 20 consecutive years, as well as being a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide. The menu is a blend of modern and traditional European dishes and ingredients are either sourced locally or produced on-site.
You will be able to purchase the wines tasted during this wonderful experience in the country store on the Estate, where there is also a carefully chosen selection of books, toys, chic clothes, design led pottery and Irish and Scottish woollens.
Before being chauffeured back to Cambridge, you will be able to savour more of the beauty of the English countryside, with time to explore part of the working farm to see the cattle, sheep and llamas, as well as woodland, hedgerows and country lanes.
